Increase list view threshold from 5000 items

By default SharePoint lists are throttled with a threshold of 5000 items.  This is mainly to prevent a drain on resource and performance decrease:

Whilst not recommended for production environments it is possible to increase this value in Central Administration.  Should you need to temporarily increase this here is how:

1. Log in to Central Administration
2. Click the Application Management link and then select Manage web applications
3. Select the required web application from the list, click the General Settings button in the ribbon and choose Resource Throttling
4. In the box provided, increase the value for List View Threshold as required and click OK
